Experience
I am looking to be a tutor because the job might help me decide if I want to pursue a degree in education. I enjoy working with others and helping them learn and feel better about themselves. Although I possess no professional tutoring experience, I have for many years helped my peers and some younger friends with schoolwork. I have had a very successful academic career and would be honored by your consideration. Hobbies
I graduated as a valedictorian from Kaiser High School and am now a student of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I am currently taking a leave of absence from the university to figure out what I want to do without wasting time and energy in classes I may not like or need and other personal reasons, but I am proud to say that I did not leave because my first semester was difficult- I did rather well, actually- but I knew when the next semester began that college just isn't what I need to do now. I am fortunate enough to be attending LMU on a full-ride merit scholarship and am able to reclaim it upon my return to LA . Tutoring is my first attempt at finding a job/exploring since I came home from California a week ago. I would like to point out that I am deeply committed to education and I mentioned my ability to reclaim my scholarship for an important reason. If I were to be hired through University Tutor and the situation arose when a student asked about my current status as a college student, I would be honest but thorough in my explanation as to why in my particular case a leave of absence was a reasonable decision for me to make and why that student should still focus on making it to college and pursuing higher education. I personally hope that tutoring gives me a hint as to whether or not I would want to pursue a degree in education. I enjoy helping others learn and have done so with my classmates and younger friends since I was in kindergarten. My very recent high school graduation is, in my opinion, very supportive of the idea that the knowledge taught to me in grade school is relatively fresh in my mind, including those parts that were harder to understand and the methods by which I persevered to learn those difficult lessons. That being said, while I am comfortable working on writing or humanities with any grade level, I would feel most comfortable working with only 10th graders and below should they need help with math and science as well. I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I simply wish to convey how qualified, eager, and committed I am to tutoring, hopefully through University Tutor. Transportation would not be a problem for me. In school I had close friends from a wide range of student cliques so I believe I could get along with most kids, and they may be more receptive of information from someone closer in age to them than their teachers. My interests include community service, hanging out with friends, and if a student is wondering: Netflix, tumblr, basketball, going to the movies, and eating food. I look forward to getting to know you.
