Hobbies
Aloha! I was born and raised in Kailua on the beautiful island of Oahu. I graduated from Maryknoll High School and attended the University of Hawaii in Manoa where I received my bachelor’s in Biology, minor in Dance, masters in Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering, and is currently pursuing my doctorate in Public Health Sciences. As an undergraduate I worked as a physical education trainer and research assistant for a non-profit physical activity and nutrition promotion program for elementary school children. For my master's thesis, I worked for the Lab of Metabolic Disorders and Alternative Therapies and mapped out the molecular transductional pathway of how fermented noni juice induced apoptosis in estrogen receptor position and negative breast cancer cells. Currently, my doctorate dissertation focuses on using a mixed method approach to examine how life course events and environmental exposures affect mobility, physical activity behavior and perceptions among older adults in Hawaii, Colombia, Canada, Brazil, and Albania. Besides school, I enjoy practicing and teaching yoga, dancing (contemporary, Tahitian), eating good food, watching YouTube videos of round furry animals, and volunteering with warthogs, sun bears, hippos, and aardvarks at the Honolulu Zoo. My ultimate goal in life is to travel the world. Also, I'm trilingual in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English!
