Hello, I am a recent graduate of Columbia University with a degree in Environmental Biology. I recently moved to Hawaii to begin a position with US Geological Survey as a Hydrologic Technician. I have a variety of subject qualifications as I have a variety of interests and skill sets. I am the oldest of 3 children and have been tutoring my brothers throughout my life. One of my brothers has a learning disability and struggles with executive functioning skills. As my parents worked odd hours, I served as his primary point of contact to help him through elementary, middle, and the first two years of high school. From this experience, I learned successful tutoring begins with understanding the individual's learning style. However, a student may not know explicitly how they learn. I know how to breakdown a difficult topic into smaller pieces and how to explain a topic in a multitude of ways. From there, I can see which method they respond the best to and better adapt to their needs. I use this method will all subjects - STEM, the humanities, test-taking, and sports. My first exposure to tutoring was through my siblings and from there I expanded to volunteer-based tutoring in high school, working as a swim coach in college, and working as a French tutor post-graduation. I helped students prepare for the ACT and I set up a college application workshop. In college, I worked as a swim teacher in 2016 where I taught kids ranging in age from 3 - 14. Before leaving for Hawaii, I tutored college-level French daily to a student for a month long course. I am able to explain a variety of concepts to students of all ages. I enjoy tutoring because I love seeing the look on a student's face when a concept finally clicks. I strive to improve my students' confidence, grades, and skills
