ExperienceMath and Chemistry Tutor
Butte Community College, Oroville, Ca: Fall and Spring Semesters 2006-2010 (Spring only)
While working as a tutor at Butte College I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of age groups, which helped me to learn to identify the various learning styles that exist in academia, and ethnic groups, which allowed me to learn various techniques in overcoming language barriers that could arise while tutoring. I worked with large groups of students from a wide range of classes and in one-on-one environments.
I maintained associations with professors to correlate information for students. I worked with large groups of students from a wide range of classes. I Maintained a consistent focus on fostering independent learning through leading questions and guidance through practice problems. I worked hard to maintain the academic support of students, and I learned to provide lessons that encompass a wide range of chemistry classes.
While tutoring at Butte College I took every opportunity possible to participate in workshops on learning skills, note taking skills, and the like to ensure my ability to help students in these areas as well. I believe that good note taking skills are necessary to excel in chemistry classes.
Butte College also offered extensive tutor training at the beginning of every semester. I was able to participate in eight of these formal training sessions during my time at The Center for Academic Success.
